Face students learn not only the fundamentals of performing, but also key aspects of approaching the performing arts industry as young professionals. In addition to an excellent performance education, Face promotes self-evaluation, collaboration, creativity, and appreciation of diversity in all working environments no matter the career path.

Face Productions has been a crucial part of my artistic and personal growth. It gave me a space to freely express myself, surrounded by friends and like-minded individuals who made every rehearsal, class, and performance something to look forward to. The teachers at Face are not just supportive, they are incredibly professional. Under the guidance of our director, Candice, and many dedicated teachers through the years, I found the encouragement and drive that led me to pursue a degree in musical theatre at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. The foundation I built at Face continues to serve me daily in my training. What makes Face special is how it brings together performers from different backgrounds - As a local student, this opened doors I never imagined and helped me feel part of something outside my school. I learned discipline and initiative through the specialized courses and developed skills that extended well beyond the stage. Most importantly, Face helped me build the confidence to speak up, perform, and connect with people.Face Production is a staple in Hong Kong’s professional youth theater, and my fulfilling experience here is what makes me recommend it to anyone looking to do a show—whether you're stepping on stage for the very first time or returning for your tenth production!

Theatre is all about people: a production is nothing without its ensemble and crew and from my four years at Face, it’s safe to say I’ve never been around a better group of people. All the teachers, to start, are not only exceptional in their respective professions, but make it clear that they care deeply for the personal and professional development of all their students. They are supportive and nurturing, but simultaneously push their students to be the absolute best. Secondly, face has managed to curate a group of teenagers who are all lovely and supportive and talented. Year after year, the students at Face are kind and thoughtful. Every production I’ve been a part of has become like a family; it is this level of trust that pushes Face’s productions to be so professional and tight. Since being an awkward, shy 14 year old, I’ve gained lifelong friends and learned that I am capable of so much more than I ever would have thought. Face productions is more than a company, it is a home.

From being a little 13 year old with big dreams, to getting to see my dreams become a reality, Face Productions has not only equipped me with the skills to be a better actor, singer, and dancer than I was before, but the exposure to working in a safe, professional, and fun environment enabled me to truly push myself and perform in ways that I never imagined I would have been able to. Being with Face helped me find confidence in experimenting with bold ideas, I never felt ‘weird’ with any artistic choices I made thanks to how welcoming and open-minded everyone in the creative team or fellow cast members were. While I gained and honed many new skills such as perseverance, being able to work collaboratively, learning to accept criticism for further improvement and more, the biggest takeaway or “win” for me was getting to meet and work with all my cast members. Whether we only shared a few interactions or became very close friends, all of the people I have met in School of Rock, Heathers, Girls Like That, Sweeney Todd, Be More Chill, and Face’s London Summer Programme have given me tremendous joy. I felt inspired by them, I felt in awe watching them perform, I felt accepted - which is the best gift I could receive not only from Face, but in life: knowing that there would always be a group of people having my back and supporting me while I embark on a new journey to get closer to my dream. I am so grateful being part of Face Productions allowed me to be certain that pursuing a degree in Acting for Stage and Screen at Regent’s University London was the right choice for me, and a special thank you to Candice for giving me advice and the space necessary during my University auditions process.

I’ve been with Face Productions for mainly 2 shows: School of Rock (2021) as Rosalie Mullins and Heathers: The Musical (2022) as Heather Chandler. I also helped out backstage especially with special effects for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2023). I had been doing musical theatre for years before, but Face’s professionalism and budget was really something you don’t typically get to experience in Hong Kong. Even though I was only there for a short time, I honestly learnt a lot like how important improvisation actually is, how to pick up choreography quicker, and getting the chance to sing in different voice-parts than I typically do. Even working backstage with Face was valuable to me, it truly showed me what it took to get a whole show running smoothly, props to everyone involved! It’s even partially the reason why I am taking Theatre Design in university now.

As I come to the end of my years at university, I am beyond grateful for the role that FACE Productions played in my life. From the moment I joined, I found myself immersed in an environment that fostered growth, empowerment and genuine support. FACE’s constant commitment to providing an incredible space for people of any age to express their love for performing, whether pre-existing or newly discovered, is something I will never forget. I was given such a variety of opportunities, including networking opportunities, workshops, and events that connected me with like-minded individuals who became an invaluable part of my professional journey. I am constantly grateful to FACE for being more than just a place for me to express myself; it has been an incentive for my personal and professional growth. The incredible stories of others benefiting from the nurturing environment and support at FACE, fill me with immense joy. My time at FACE will never be forgotten and I am excited for others to have the same opportunities I had. I can’t wait to see so many more incredible productions!

As I begin my next chapter at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, studying for a Musical Theatre Performance degree, I look back to my time at FACE productions and the influence they have had on me as a performer. Beginning the first of many productions with Into the Woods, and the opportunity to perform in one of Hong Kong’s best theatres was just the start of my three-year journey at FACE. Not only did I gain an understanding of the foundations of all three musical theatre disciplines (singing, dancing, and acting) during my time there, but I learned how to properly support myself to ensure a healthy career, whilst creating lifelong friendships.
Gaining the role of vocal ambassador allowed me to go even more in-depth when learning about the fundamentals of singing too. I was supported the whole way through my audition process where I was successful in gaining a place at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts where I just graduated after completing my 5th year of training. FACE productions nourished my love for the Performing Arts and has taught me lifelong skills in becoming the best performer I can be.

My time at Face Productions was an absolutely memorable and fulfilling experience which I look back on fondly. Being part of this community, I was given the chance to work with likeminded and very talented individuals and explore my own strengths in a new language of arts. Face was a platform for me to express my newfound love for theatre and explore, learn and have fun without judgement. I worked with an amazing production team, and a diverse group of performers who I can confidently say have become incredible friends of mine; (notably my best friend who, to this day, I still love and keep in contact with). I was given front row seats and the stage myself to learn about the skill, commitment and most importantly, passion it takes to be in such an industry. So much so, it has convinced me to pursue a theatre major in university which I absolutely love. I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Education and Arts with a Major in Theatre and Performance studies at the university of New South Wales.It’s amazing to see Face Productions growing and giving performing arts the recognition in Hong Kong it deserves. My time here was definitely one that will be shared and remembered for years to come!

Sophia Lawrence
I have always loved performing art since I was a young child - whether it was singing Beyonce songs in the shower or playing Jasmine in my primary school’s production of Aladdin. Somehow, throughout some years of high school I lost touch with my theatre side. It was when I found FACE that I reignited my love of performing. My experience with FACE helped me relearn why I love performing - the friendships I made and the feeling of being on stage. I did two main productions: DNA and School of Rock. I also did the Legally Blonde summer school. All three experiences were extremely fun and helped me relieve the stress of university applications. Even though the tech week of rehearsals coincided with my application deadlines, the backstage memories of the show will always stick with me. Now that I am a second-year law student at Durham University, I still engage with the arts. Last year, I performed in Bring It On, which was another incredible experience. Moreover, it has definitely helped with my public speaking and confidence in a legal context, as I managed to use these skills to succeed in mooting and mock trial competitions. I would recommend doing performing arts whatever your background as it is not only fun but also gives you many transferrable skills for your future.

The teachers at FACE Productions make it their mission to encourage and support young artists in all aspects of acting, singing, and dance, whilst creating a welcoming and lively environment for students to explore their creative potentials. In my experience with FACE, we were encouraged to work as an ensemble, supporting and uplifting each other, whilst cultivating our own creative voice and self expression. FACE has given me experiences and a theatrical family that I cherish and can always count on. Not only that, FACE Productions training has also equipped me with the creative joy and sense of discipline needed in order to pursue the performing arts in higher education and beyond.

I joined FACE as someone who had no prior experience or knowledge in Musical Theatre. FACE provided me with endless opportunities and equipped me with transferable skills such as punctuality, perseverance, hard work, commitment, and a professional work ethic. It is because of FACE that I had the confidence to pursue Musical Theatre, graduating with top grades and successfully getting Agency Representation which has led me to audition for West End and Touring Productions. All of this I wouldn’t have been able to achieve without Face Productions faith and support in me.
